Artist Bio:
Son of Paper (SOP) is a lyricist, storyteller, rapper, & community member who engages audiences deeply with his live performances and creative writing workshops. From his groovy R&B tracks to Boom Bap, the 25-year-old rapper continues to be a dynamic and innovative artist exploring Asian American identity.
SOP is the great-grandson of a Paper Daughter, a term that describes ethnic Chinese people who illegally immigrated to the US during the Chinese Exclusion. On SOPs 2023 album, From a Rooftop in Chinatown, he makes use of this history and seeks to reckon with controversial topics like anti-Asian sentiment and racism both towards and with the Asian community.
